2011

Just getting things in gear gathering my equipment re-spooling the lines and watching the weather and temps. Should be able to hit something within a week to a week and a half I hope! More to follow! I have to clear the 2010 count and clean the blog up some for the 2011 season!

4/15

Hit the Black River today managed only 3 but I was moving up river fast, and fishing spot's that had produced along the way. Got my best Sm of the year she was almost 17" and was very heavy.

4/14 Black River

I ended up getting 4 nice sized SM's Got my first one at 1:40 I did have one that got off right at the shore she was a LM I had her but one last flop right at my feet and she was gone! I worked well up river today it's going to be tough in the summer unless I'm wading, but today's little expedition warrants more exploring. Over all good day I'm going to hit it in the AM for a few hrs. before work. Saw a Turkey fly across the river that was a neat site.

4/13 Wallace Lake

Hooked up with Chris and hit Wallace lake no luck he said he got a 13" LM and I saw his friend hook in to one but it got off the hook. Hit the east branch of the river right by Wallace lake looked good it might be a producer in the summer, but it is difficult to get to.

4/12 Black River Victory

Finally I got some fish out of the black river, awesome! I started at day's dam and worked to the rapids, and again I stopped? Tomorrow or Wed I need to hike past the rapids. Anyway got nothing in my summer spots so I worked up river tossing rubber crawdads, Blue fox roosters, and some small cranks. I stumbled upon a hole right before the rapids with fish in it the first fish came out of nowhere and hit a crawdad (I still can't find the powerbait craw's). She was a nice fish, heavy, and a quick measure put her at 12"-13". I got a strike at the crawdad again, but missed it so I changed to a spinner. Got a hit right away and caught 2 more in the hole 1 lm and 2 sm. The second lm came in some what fast water and completely out of nowhere. I had casted the area 3+ times and nothing. all 4 fish were decent sizes all over 12". Overall a great day oh I saw an Eagle I really don't remember seeing them ever I'm glad there back!

4/7 Late Post

Never got around to posting this, but I hit the Black River and Lake Erie.
I worked the Black River North from Day's Dam to the mouth. I tried the boat launch off Broadway I was able to work a good stretch, but come summer access is going to be very limited. It has potential as I felt a lot of cover. After that I hit the mouth and the breakwall on the lake no luck then the weather turned cold and rainy so I quit for the day.

Spencer Victory!

Went out to Spencer lake today for the first time this year today! I love that lake I always do well there today I managed to hook 15 fish 4 of which were LM Bass! they were small but it was nice to see them again. it was a slow day and at first all I was getting were Crappie's. My first bass came late in the day and I got it on a fast get my lure out of the water retrieve I actually saw him hit it I saw Flash, Flash than POW my rod dropped! it was an awesome day kind of windy and partly cloudy the wind died down and the clouds cleared then it was awesome. I did get to see my first Bald Eagle in the wild what an amazing bird He soared right above me and I found it mesmerizing. I actually got to watch him dive into the water to retrieve a fish an awesome site.

Black River

Hit the Black river for the first time yesterday got skunked, but it was a beautiful day. It was a tad early to be hitting the river and I may have gotten there a little late in the day but oh well. The day before I hit the Rocky River and finally saw some Steelhead it just wasn't me that was getting to see them up close! Skunked again Batman!

KICKOFF!

What an awesome day on the Rocky River! I got skunked, but the weather and river conditions made up for it. I saw a ton of fishermen and a ton of suckers but no Trout!

Tomorrow I'm going to try out the Black River with some Minnows under bobber I may also give a spawn sack a try hoping a steelhead is hanging out, but I think I'm going to target Small mouths. It may be too early but I've seen some Pic's of Smallies taken out of the RR and always had better luck with them on the Black River, so if there pulling them out of the Rock. They have to be close if not already in my sweet spot on the Black River.

Air Temp. 70+f
Water Temp. 45f
Conditions: Sunny, River low, med-fast, and clear.
Lures:
Yellow Spawn Sack
Pink Jig

2 years!

Wow this is still here? And I go back to it almost exactly 2 years to the day? Crazy...
I think I'm basically typing this for myself, but anyway...

Hooked up with a cat from OGF and scored basically a tackle box worth of Bass lures. then I went to wal-mart, and Picked up a new tackle bag along with a few basic fishing staples.
Then home for dinner then back out to complete my 2010 set up. For the reel I chose Daiwa Takara 2500, and for the rod a 6' Medium action Ugly Stick. I think I'm set I have a few small things to pick up like Plastics, but I think I'll get those as needed. I do need to pick up some small jigs for my first outing tomorrow.

3/30 Portage Lakes (Turkey Foot)

Pre-Fished Portage today for next Sunday's tournament. Didn't hook a fish till well after 3pm I did catch one LM Bass but he popped off the hook right when I got him to the boat. It was pretty windy and that made fishing the open water very difficult. Overall nice lake I really liked the area to the right of the boat launch. Also liked the area by the other boat launch.

Water Temp. 32f (at surface)
Conditions: windy, fast underwater current.

3/28 Black River

Well, after work today I decided to check out the mouth of the Black River, The River was very muddy and filled with patches of floating debris. I saw Logs as big as full grown trees, large and small sticks, Large branches, and of course garbage. Didn't catch any fish but I did see a few splashes, but didn't see the fish.

3/24 Rocky River

4pm-7pm
Air Temp. 37f
Water Temp. ? (cold)
Conditions: Fast and muddy.
Fished:
The First Ford,
I fished the North side of the ford and caught 5 sucker fish one off my first cast! Nasty looking fish and during any other time of the year I would avoid these fish the same way I avoid carp. Stumbled on to a good sized school of them in the slow moving water off the sides of the faster current. Lost way more than I brought in, I'm guessing I was snagging the one's I lost because, One of the fish was snagged on its back.
Lures:
Black Jig +1
Orange Jig
White Jig +4
